Louisville Visual Art Announces 2024-2025 Curate, Purchase, Inspire Curatorial Fellows and Nonprofit Partners

Louisville Visual Art (LVA) proudly announces the selection of Lindsey Cummins and Anne Borders as the third cohort of Curate, Purchase, Inspire (CPI) Curatorial Fellows. Lindsey will work with Louisville Grows to commission/purchase artwork for installation on their property at 1641 Portland Avenue. Anne will work with the Earth and Spirit Center to commission/purchase artwork for installation on the grounds of their property at 1924 Newburg Road. Work will take place From June 1, 2024 - May 31, 2025.

CPI is made possible by a generous $1 Million donation from Louisville native and artist, Clare Hirn. Dedicated to supporting local artists and organizations as it builds an art collection in the public trust, CPI places original art in publicly accessible spaces administered by Louisville nonprofits. In collaboration with community arts leaders, LVA mentors the two selected Curatorial Fellows over the course of the year, helping them identify local artists, refine their concepts, and collaborate with their nonprofit partners.

CPI builds a publicly accessible collection of art by local artists that is displayed in vibrant nonprofits across Louisville. CPI embodies LVA’s commitment to support regional artists, nurture emerging curators, and expand public access to art.

Lindsey Cummins (she/her/hers) is a Louisville, KY-based Independent Curator, Collections Advisor, and Community Arts Organizer.

Through her business, AVID Collectors, LLC, Lindsey uplifts her arts community by assisting patrons and private collections. In 2020, Lindsey co-founded Printed, an arts collective that connects makers and inspires creative work through the accessible zine format. Lindsey also works alongside her partner, Ellie Bruner, on their nomadic art and design studio, Kudzu Jelly, weaving art exhibitions into shared spaces.

Lindsey holds a degree in Studio Art, Art History, and Modern Culture from Louisville’s Hite Art Institute. She sits on the Board of the Portland Museum and is a member of the International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art (IKT).

Lindsey’s nonprofit partner, Louisville Grows, plants trees and cultivates nourishing produce to benefit neighborhoods where loss of tree canopy creates significant Urban Heat Island Effect, and where lack of grocery stores causes food insecurity.

Lindsey’s project seeks to commission large-scale artwork for long-term installation on the grounds and possibly on the building exteriors of Louisville Grows, with the aim of enhancing visitors’ experiences and promoting care-driven investment in shared neighborhood spaces.

Anne Borders brings richly varied experience to the 2024-2025 CPI cohort. Having earned degrees in Art History and Classics from the University of Kentucky, she worked at the Speed Art Museum after graduation. Since then, she’s been a professional yoga instructor, visual artist, and interior designer, among other pursuits. Her lifelong engagement with visual art includes fond memories of visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as a child and building a personal collection of art over the course of many years.

Anne’s nonprofit partner, the Earth and Spirit Center, cultivates transformative learning and service opportunities dedicated to mindful awakening, compassionate justice, and care for the Earth.

Anne’s project seeks to commission a number of large-scale, long-term sculptural installations to be sited on the Center’s property, which includes wooded walking trails, mowed fields, and orchards. The works will integrate seamlessly with the Center’s landscape and programming, operating as prompts for or focuses of meditative contemplation.
