Facility Manager
Born and raised in Louisville, Keith Waits spent his youth fascinated with art and artists in all mediums. As an adult he has maintained associations with creative people and organizations that foster their efforts, both in the visual and performing arts.
Having drawn and painted during his early years, he studied Fine Art at three
institutes of higher learning, including the now defunct Louisville School of Art, before first working for the LVAA for two years in the late 1980’s. During this period, he was also significantly involved with Walden Theatre, engaged in support work in set design and construction, as well as assisting in touring
productions within the state of Kentucky, but primarily responsible for the
operation of small a visual art exhibition opportunity in their performing space.
For several years after that, Keith worked professionally in retail bookselling as a Manager and Purchaser, both in Kentucky and Indiana, eventually spending 7 years with the Indiana University Bookstore in Bloomington. Three years ago family obligations and old-fashioned homesickness motivated him to return to live in his hometown, where he was immediately offered his current position with the Louisville Visual Art Association. It neatly fit his desire to devote himself to an organization with a worthwhile mission to the Louisville community, one that, as an artist, he could fully appreciate.
In addition to his work at the LVAA, Keith is a passionate cineaste, nurturing an insatiable appetite for films and film history as a course of personal study, and an avid theatergoer. In fact, he also finds the time to write reviews of theatre productions for a local website, www.theatrelouisville.org.
