Sen. Denton and Rep. Owens present grant check to LVAA

State Sen. Julie Denton and Rep. Darryl Owens presented the Louisville Visual Art Association (LVAA) with a ceremonial check for $22,204 for a Kentucky Arts Partnership competitive grant awarded by the Kentucky Arts Council in July 2009. Savannah Barrett, Education Coordinator, and Shannon Westerman, Executive Director, accepted the check on behalf of the LVAA. Kentucky Arts Partnership grants provide operational support to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations to ensure year-round arts activities and opportunities are available to Kentuckians.

"Louisville Visual Art Association offers arts education, exhibition space and the opportunity to participate in the arts for Louisville citizens from all walks of life," said Sen. Denton. "I'm extremely impressed with Louisville Visual Art Association's community outreach efforts with innovative programs for our youth and the elderly," said Rep. Owens.

LVAA makes their mark at the Mayoral Forum for Arts and Culture

On Monday February 8, 11 candidates appeared at the Kentucky Center for the Arts to discuss their vision for the arts and culture of Louisville. Each candidate was asked to respond to questions posted by the community on their plans to promote arts and culture in Louisville, in terms of funding, neighborhood development, real estate opportunities, and arts education for both student and teacher development. Feedback was positive and there was a strong attendance from the arts community, both performing and visual. LVAA staff made their mark by holding up a sign to further promote the importance of funding the arts in Louisville. Read the Courier Journal's article!
