LVAA provides micro-loans up to artists to be used to further their professional and business development. Established in 2007 through the generosity of the family of Louisville artist, Linda Schaaf, the program offers low interest micro-loans up to $1000.
Any visual artist over the age of 18, living in Jefferson County, Kentucky, may apply for a loan. The loan may be for any purpose that tangibly furthers the applicant's professional career. An interest rate of 3% will be charged on each loan, with a repayment schedule of 12 monthly installments.
The program was established by the family of Linda Schaaf and the Louisville Visual Art Association in the memory of the Linda Schaaf, a photographer, artist, and master of pen and ink drawing who was born and raised in Louisville, KY.
About Linda Schaaf
Linda Schaaf's artwork, spanning 40 years, documented the life of an artist who struggled with both mental and physical illness. Much of Schaaf's career was spent on the west coast. The "Flying Against the Wind" exhibition at the LVAA in June 2007 was her first show in Louisville. Sales from that show helped establish the Linda Schaaf Micro-Loan Program for Visual Artists.
"My sister made incredible sacrifices throughout her life on behalf of her art. Linda transcended her mental and physical challenges to create a body of work that chronicles her interior and exterior worlds over the span of four decades."
